The Gay Millionaires Club (GMC) was established in February 2001 by Jill Hankoff. Hankoff has been helping gay men connect since 1994.

In the early 90’s Hankoff started an exclusive dining club (The Gay Gourmet) which had upscale social functions for gay men. Hankoff knew that her gay clients didn't have the same choices that single straight men had at traditional dating services. She found that driven, extremely successful professional men often did not have the time (or the inclination) to attend the social functions she put together. And, while surfing the Internet may have been commonplace in the 90's, her clients were looking for a lot more; they want relationships and "hooking up" for sex on the Internet didn't provide them with the quality or caliber of men they wanted.

Hankoff discovered that many accomplished men had worked very hard to achieve their success during their twenties and thirties and just didn't have the opportunity to meet the man of their dreams. Most were just too busy earning their fortunes. Hankoff saw that they wanted someone they can talk to, who is bright, interesting, and with whom they can share the lifestyle they have worked so hard to attain.
